The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Nakawa West Parliamentary seat, Burora Herbert Anderson, has called for a shift in Kampala’s political leadership, arguing that years of opposition dominance have failed to deliver essential services to the city.
Speaking on NBS Barometer on Tuesday, Burora criticized Kampala residents’ continued support for opposition leaders, saying it has yielded little tangible benefit.
“Kampala’s problem has been the continued support for the opposition. For the last 30 years, Kampala has not benefited in terms of service delivery from opposition leadership. We need to remove the opposition from Kampala,” he stated.
Burora also took aim at Kampala Central MP aspirant Abraham Luzzi, whose campaign emphasizes a digital-first strategy aimed at engaging voters and sharing policy ideas through social media while minimizing disruption to the city’s daily activities.
“Contrary to what Luzzi is saying, you can’t be an MP who is not in touch with the people. Even if you do digital campaigns, people will still come to your inbox asking for school fees,” Burora argued.
He stressed that urban constituencies require a balance between technology and grassroots engagement. While social media is a valuable communication tool, he emphasized that physical presence and accessibility remain essential for effective representation.
Burora’s remarks come as the 2026 general elections approach, with political competition in Kampala intensifying as both ruling party and opposition candidates ramp up their campaigns.
